I have been asked to be a member of CTCACC. I'm not completely clear on the mission/goals of this group, but I will attend my first meeting February 5th. I will report back to PAC2 about the meeting and would love feedback/ideas from any of you in the group.
I think that is great Lisa. When I looked at the website, it seemed like alot of $ going to prevention, detection, support that kind of thing. I didn't see any going to research, which is sort of strange I thought. But not sure what the mission of the org is. But is sure is a lot of $$!
Thanks Bob - I'll let you know how the meeting goes. Maybe I could be the voice there for research funding. My contact with the LiveStrong survivorship clinic is the one who invited me to join this group. She also mentioned that they needed someone to focus on legislative issues - So we'll see where this takes me - us. The e-mail invitation I received was from someone at ACS.
Bob - Were you looking at the CPRIT web-site? (otherwise know as Prop. 15?) I asked, and the CTCACC doesn't even have a web-site. I'll let you know how the meeting goes next week, and what it's all about.
Speaking of Prop.15, I'm still digging for more info on what that's about - Yes, it's 3 Billion Dollars for cancer research and prevention here in Texas - I'm thinking of possibly trying to mobilize something here on PAC2 to make sure our kids here in TX get some of that pie! I've been talking to Debbie E. about it a little, but still in the brainstrorming/info gathering phase. The board has their next meeting Feb. 20. I'm right here in Austin, where they meet, so I figure I might as well try to do something, right? Any feedback you might have on this sort of thing would be greatly appreciated!
I just saw the other day that AJ was treated at TCH - and you used to live in Houston. I grew up in SW Houston, Alief area.
Have a great day. - Lisa
