My best friend's child, who I love as if he were my own, was diagnosed with JMML in 2007. After three years in remission, he has relapsed. As we start the battle again, we will need all the support we can get.

Farewell

Kendall's battle ended at 10:25pm on Sunday, July 31, 2011. I miss him so much.

The Plan...

I just wanted to post an update about Kendall. He's doing well. He's a happy little boy and although he'd rather be home, he still enjoys himself in the hospital during his stays. He spent Thanksgiving there on contact and neutropenic precautions, but since this is a toy-less and candy-less holiday, he was less traumatized than you might think. The nurses are letting him leave his room even though he is testing positive for the C-Diff antigen. He wears a hat, long sleeves and long pants with… Continue

Childhood is Tough

We all have sweet memories of childhood, most of us anyway. Why is that? I think that it's because everything is more as a child than as an adult. When a child feels joy, it fills them up; it's the only emotion they feel, so pure. But, being a child is tough, even under the best of circumstances. It's also true that when a child feels pain, it also is the only thing they feel. Embarrassment, frustration, loneliness, and oh yes, fear. All of these things are overwhelmingly pure emotions,… Continue

dear Benji...it has taken me a while to respond to you...tried to take a year to heal...didn't work.  the healing takes place by giving back...we raised almost 100,000 in honor of Carson and plan on donating it to study Carson's brain waiting in Dallas at U.T. Southwestern to be studied for the recurrence of medulloblastoma.

I AM SO PLEASED CARRYME has been a blessing to you and your sphere of influence...

I would love to know Kendalls favorite person, thing ,place. I have a company that I could make him something to decorate his room for free. It is removable and will not damage the hospital walls. We do things like this for the Make a Wish Foundation. I you could supply an address of some sort of something Kendall really loves. It can even be you and everyone he loves. So when you are not there he will see you. I would love to do this for Kendall. He has to have a heart of gold.

Thank you for your note. It was a pleasant surprise. I hear you loud and clear about the scars. I just wrote about that very thing in my most recent caringbridge. This site is new to me but I will definitely take some time and get to know it better. Thanks again!

Thank you for your kind comments. I continued to be inspired by the courage and love in the children and families that I encounter every day. I came to this website by way of a mother who lost her son to a brain tumor, and she has since started her organization www.kidsvcancer.org and began lobbying congress/governemnt to increase research funding and awareness of pediatric cancers. Please visit her website if you are interested.
