My 6 yr old daughter Ishani was diagnosed with Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma in her leg in June 2006. After surgery, radiation and 42 weeks of chemotherapy, she was in remission and doing really well. Sadly last week she was diagnosed with a relapse. We don't know what the future holds for her or us, but we will continue to enjoy every moment we have together.

My thoughts about the American Cancer Society

My thoughts about the American Cancer Society

So this is written out of frustration and sadness. These are MY thoughts.  If my view offends you, then I am sorry….I am speaking as an advocate for ALL our children. I DO CARE about every person affected by cancer, but our kids have no voice and sadly not many adults choose to speak on their behalf.

WHY

Posted on January 21, 2012 at 9:30pm 0 Comments

Why?

It has been over 5 years since my 9 yr old daughter was first diagnosed with cancer (Rhabdomyosarcoma), and never once did I think “why Ishani”. The truth is it can be any of our kids. 36 kids are diagnosed each day in the U.S. 1 in 300 kids are diagnosed before the age of 19. So why do we think it will NOT be our kid?

But I have repeatedly asked “why…

September is coming - why I do what I do.

Posted on August 16, 2010 at 6:30pm 0 Comments

I posted this on facebook and sent it to my family and friends (to explain why I am always talking about childhood cancer and why I am always trying to get them involved). While on a personal level we get a lot of love, support and prayers, I need them to understand why it is even more important to fight for our kids.

To my family and friends

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and…

Please help me understand...

Posted on July 9, 2010 at 3:19pm 4 Comments

I am trying hard to understand why it is so difficult to get support for childhood cancer and even harder to get funding.

I have some simple questions..

1) If you had to choose between you or your kid having cancer who would you choose:

a) yourself b) your kid

2) If both you and your kid had cancer and there was enough money to find a cure for one of you who would you choose the cure for…

Need to vent!

Posted on March 29, 2010 at 1:47pm 5 Comments

When I feel "down" I always turn to PAC2 for comfort and inspiration. I guess I do the same when I need to vent...

I spend many hours a day (like all of you) to advocate for our kids, spread awareness and fundraise. We just raised $2200 from a Silent Auction for the Alex's lemonade stand. At the end of the day I feel like I have contributed in some small way to make a difference for the generations to come.

But then I get home and find the American…

Hi Dash,
Thanks for adding me as your friend. Sending you positive thoughts and prayers for clear scans. Thinking positive is the only way to get through it, we have found.

Thank you for steering me to this site. I know that I'm only one voice but at least I know that it's loud and I will do whatever I can to get this message out. I'm sure I will see you again soon at the clinic. : )

Dash - Also, who is your Congressional Rep? Mine is Lloyd Doggett.. I'm going to invite him to tour the clinic and Dell Children's with me and other reps and parents from the clinic in August. Are you interested in also inviting your rep?

HI Dash - Good luck with your ALSF stand coming up! I will e-mail you about my meeting with Cynthia. We are trying to plan a large fundraiser/bone marrow drive/awareness event for September - hopefully it will attract lots of local media coverage. Cynthia has a ton of contacts! Lisa

Hi Dash - I met with Cynthia at the clinic this morning about September events here in Austin. Would love to talk with you about them - and also, she mentioned that People magazine is doing a story on your Lemonade Stands? Is this true? Any chance they might do a story for September CC Awareness?
Call me at 512 288-1683 if you want to talk.
