I was introduced to the childhood cancer world when my 14 yr old niece, Kelsie, was diagnosed with Burkitts Lymphoma in June, 2007. Five months later she passed away. I am dedicated to advocating and fundraising for childhood cancer research and do so through Rally Foundation. Rally operates at an amazing 93% efficiency based on independent audits. I have focused on working with Rally on their Rally Athlete program. With this program, you are provided the training plans and organized practices, while fundraising solely for childhood cancer research.

On June 23, 2007 my 14 yr old niece, Kelsie, was diagnosed with Burkitts Lymphoma. She went into "remission" after her first couple rounds of chemo, but unfortunately it didn't last long. On October 23, 2007 we found out that the Burkitts was back. They attempted to get her into remission again so that they could do a BMT, but told us it wasn't very likely. Unfortunately the Dr's were right...and Kelsie passed away on November 23, 2007 (the day after thanksgiving)....just five short months after her diagnosis day. She was so special, had such a bright future ahead of her, just like all of these kids....this has to STOP.

Thanks Kathi.  That sounds like a great idea.  I have been racking my brain in how to get involved doing something I love in memory of Willem and raising awareness and funds for research at the same time.  This may be it.  If you don't mind I'd like to contact you in the future (maybe next year?) If I decide organize Rally Kid here in Rochester.

Kathi,

thank you for the info regarding LLS and Team in Training.  I have already raised what I needed for the LLS in order to go to San Diego to run, but I will keep all of this info in mind. In past years, we've raised money through St. Baldrick's, but this year I chose to fulfill a goal of mind while running in memory of my son.  I suppose it is selfish to just want to run for my son, but I have been up and down over the past 4 years and I'm finally getting back into raising awareness and funds again for Childhood Cancer Research. Your info is very helpful and for future marathons and fundraising I will keep all of the info you provided in mind.

warmest regards,

Ted Bolan

Hi Kathi- am checking in to PAC2. With the entrance of Facebook into my life (I think I need an intervention!) and all the 46 Mommas stuff, I've been away too long. Am confused by the messages I sent you on this thread ....  Shows how well my brain was working..... Anyway... if you still need photos to fill in the circles on the collage, let me know.  Hope you are well. ~ Bekah

Hi Kathi:
I am trying to activate these geo groups. Can you post a discussion on your geo group about the need to call, etc. on the new initiative, the funding for the CPWCCCA. I suppose I could become a member of each group but..... :)

Why I chose Rally

Posted on March 22, 2011 at 1:00pm 0 Comments

Throughout the last few years I have been a proud member of PAC2. Through PAC2 I have gotten to know many other advocates.  I have gotten familiar with many great organizations in the childhood cancer world.  I have gone to DC to talk to lawmakers.  I will continue to be a part of PAC2.  I will continue to make calls to my lawmakers.  But where I am focusing my fundraising efforts is through Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research.…

When I joined here I had just lost my 14 yr old niece and Bob and Lori had just started PAC2. I knew nothing of the lack of funding, only knew that my niece died because there was NO CURE and had such a feeling of loss and overwhelming drive to do SOMETHING to help other children/families not have to go through what I watched Kelsie and my family go through…. something needed to change.

Since that time I have learned so much, mostly all here on PAC2. It is a tremendous resource, wealth of… Continue
