I have been a nurse since January 1981 starting in a Children's Hospital on a unit for children with various medical conditions but mostly had children with cancer and other hematology conditions. My first primary patient was a two year old with rhabdomyosacroma and since that time I have been touched by many children with cancer. Unfortunately many of the times these children have not survived or survived with late effects that have affected their quality of life. Since August 1995 I am working on a Blood and Marrow Transplant Unit that cares for pediatric patients and adult patients but my first love is the care for the pediatric patients. I have been involved in St Baldrick's in 2007 as a volunteer at the event and then was co-organizer/shavee in 2008. I am currently looking forward to doing the event for 2009 and will be organizing it as well as being a return shavee. I am also involved with the local CURE CHILDHOOD CANCER ASSOCIATION in Rochester New York and have volunteered at several of their events for their children and families along with some of their fundraisers. I am also looking forward to volunteering at the KAZOO FEST this Christmas to benefit Camp Good Days and Special Times. I would encourage everyone to find something to do that will benefit these children or their families since they are usually the special ones and have never cared for a more fantastic population or their families.
