My reason to be here is because my son Scottie who was 3 1/2 at the time was diagnosed with Leukemia (all) on July 7, 2008. I left my job to be with him and to deal with this drastic change that has and continue to affect my family.

I'm so hurt about how life changed my son.

Posted on April 5, 2009 at 7:16pm 4 Comments

I know we all have our own struggle in life with our kids being sick. I have tried so far for 8 1/2 months to deal with my son being sick. I know this is a long journey, I know it will get better, I know I'm doing my best, I know it all... But it's not enough. I'm so unhappy about everything, no matter how many people around me are so supported, understanding, listening to me vent, it's not enough. I even went to church to help me feel better about myself that didn’t help. I was angry just… Continue

Hi Maribel, I just saw your comment about going to the Boston Marathon. I wanted to wish you the best of luck there. And after your run, there will be a group of Massage students from Nashua Community College there to give the runners a massage. Be sure to come by for a massage to relax after the race. I will be there as well helping the runners. Take care, Sheryl Kenney.

No were not in the hospital right now.Jolie is in long term maintenence now. Of course if she gets a fever we would have to go to the hospital. I'm going to read Scottie's CarePage, and Add him to my list.

Maribel - Trust me, I have been through lots of upheaval in my life - even before Fiona was diagnosed, so I totally get where you are emotionally. Just months after she was diagnosed, a family member held a fund raiser to help us - and kept all the money. We have almost lost our house, our older daughters can no longer attend college and our credit rating is completely in the toilet. Those are the highlights! But the bottom line is that Fiona is surviving and beating the cancer - one step at a time.
I can only encourage you to start reaching out - and perservere. Your circumstances have changed. I'm not sure if I totally understood your situation about the insurance (your husband's new employer is only providing for insuring him while he is working?) but it seems as though that may change your rating with the SCHIP.
Also, help can from the strangest and most unexpected places. We were bailed out in the final hour before foreclosure by my sister. I didn't ask - she volunteered. She and her family are missionaries and live very frugally - I never would have asked her!
I have friends who lost their teenage son to leukemia who started a foundation to help other families. Please, please contact them and let them know what is happening. They are awesome people! You have to fill out the application. I don't know how much money they can offer - but every little bit helps!

Hope you hear from the social worker soon...

It's ok. You are going through so much right now and not to have the basics taken care of is one more thing to tip the scale. Please don't think I'm being nosy - but have you applied for (Medicaid) SCHIP? We didn't apply for it right away because we have decent insurance - despite the hospital's urging. Anyway, long story short - we finally did and it has been a life saver. If you don't have it, it would provide you peace of mind - at least for Scottie's treatment. They can approve it retroactively for hospital bills. They would first require applying for SSI - then the SCHIP. Also, I would talk to your social worker at the hospital about applying for additional monies. There is help through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. They can provide you with a one-time mortgage payment - up to $1500 (I think.) There is help out there for the families - and it's ok to ask for it.
Hang in there...

Hi,
We're doing good. Mike is on antibiotics for a cough. He's better. Will see doctor this wednesday. Hopefully he is well enough to start his next treatment pahse, which includes a new drug for him as part of his protocal. He had a good Christmas. The boys got ALOT of stuff. The clinic was nice enough to give toys to both boys. I was so overwhelmed. We had a quiet new year's at home. I just let the kids run around and play with their new toys. I'm alwyas tired and it shows. People have said this to me. I am happy that it is a new year. I am looking forward to better things and a fresh start. I have to have a positive attitude. Hope all is well with you. I'm glad you like the pic. I will try to send you one of Noah.
Take care,

Madeline

Hey, I am so sorry to hear about your husband's job but how awesome that he has another one lined up. There are a lot of ups and downs (did I mention cancer stinks????); it's important that you just take it one day at a time and remember that there are lots of us out there rooting for you. Hope your cold is getting better too. I can't wait until winter is over! I feel like we have had one virus or another since school started. Yuck! Glad to hear that Scottie is doing well. I am sending you lots of positive energy and hope you ALL get some good sleep!
Hugs,
Sherry
