I wonder if you've thought of running programs in the background on your computer to help cancer research.

This project is the largest I've found:

Now has two cancer projects - a general cancer project not recommended for machines with less than 1 GB of memory, and a childhood cancer project not requiring as much memory; as welll as a few non-cancer projects

This one seems to be medium sized:

Changes fairly frequently and often shows errors, so not for people who insist on running only well-tested software.

This one is now unreachable - hopefully because they no no longer need computing help:

I had my computer set to contribute to all three, plus several more medical research projects elsewhere. BOINC allows you to do this.

Thank You for the links, to date we have had both the city mayor and county mayor sign a proclamation delclaring Sept. Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The local paper did a nice write up about the city mayor presenting steven with the proclamation. We are continuing to try to get others in the community involved. i think we wil be involved for a very long time. My daughter is involved in pageants and has choosen childhood cancer awareness as her platform.

Thank you for the comment, but unfortunately Josh lost his battle with cancer. He had glioblastoma mulitform, it was very aggressive and progressed very quickly. My son, Steven, has decided to dedicate his Eagle project in scouts to him. He is launching a Childhood Cancer Awarness Campaign in our community. He has already been presented with a proclamation signed by the mayor of our home town! We approached the mayor over the summer and he was very willing to help. It is a great way to get word out into the public about September being Childhood Cancer Awarness month. Our local paper did a nice small piece on it and it was on page 3!! Josh would have been proud.

My 14 year old daughter has ALCL and has been on continuous treatment for 9 years. She lost a beautiful little friend, McKenna, to ALCL and she wants to start a foundation in her memory. McKenna's mom, Krista, suggested we take a look at this website and join forces.

Hi Robert,

thanks for the info, and welcome to PAC2. We are a community of parents, friends, survivors, medical professionals, childhood cancer organizations (CureSearch, Alex's Lemonade Stand, St. Baldrick's, Make-A-Wish and others) and concerned citizens, all with the same mission - eradicate Childhood Cancer.

My first initiative was the Childhood Cancer Awareness Petition. The Petition was started before Stand Up 2 Cancer, and now has over 17,000 signatures with the objective to have a nationwide major media event bringing awareness to Childhood Cancer. To be childhood cancer's "Inconvenient Truth" moment.

The format is unique. You can have friends, post photos and videos, blog, participate in Forum discussions, start Groups about your interest, chat live with other members, promote fundraisers or join a Group that is focused on your interests in childhood cancer.

While all those features are nice, it still takes ACTION. This is truly the reason PAC2 started. Each day or so, we feature ideas for members in the golden boxes on the home page. This is where you can help by taking action. You can get started with these ideas.

I look forward to your contributions and ideas, and working together in the future. Thanks again for being here, I am sorry you have to be............AJs Dad
