I am the author of Jamie's Journey Cancer from the Voice of a Sibling.
When a child is diagnosed with cancer, siblings may struggle with complex emotions such as confusion, guilt, and fear. Part story, part journal, Jamie’s Journey: Cancer from the Voice of a Sibling helps siblings cope with those intense feelings. The first half of the book describes Jamie’s roller coaster of emotions after her 10-year-old sister, Jordan, is diagnosed with cancer. Jamie laments the loss of her life and feels forgotten as her family focuses on Jordan’s cancer. Jamie journals about her experiences; she encourages the reader to share his or her own journey in the journal section of the book.
The rollercoaster of emotions for the siblings is tremendous. A range that spans the gamut. How do they begin to handle these emotions while their parents are in the throes of the cancer diagnosis? Do other siblings feel this way? Jamie’s Journey lets siblings know they are not alone with a place to let their voice be heard. The diagnosis doesn’t matter; the emotions do. Siblings are the unsung heroes.
In addition, I work as a Program Specialist for Children's Cancer Network in Chandler, Arizona.
Thank you to everyone who has a passion for childhood cancer and the journey that the entire family travels together.
