support for parents who have lost a teen or adult child

Hi Everyone,

I have started a support group for people who have lost a teen or adult child. I feel that we can never get enough support, and this is one more place where we can share our children. I thought about having the site open to parents who have lost children at any age, yet felt that while the grief is the same, the heartbreak is the same, there are some different issues with loss of children at different ages. I hope this does not offend anyone. Please let me know if parents of… Continue

Strange New Life

2009 will be the first year since my son Silas River Bennett was born that he will have no part of. The magnitude of this reality is hitting my heart with a pain and heaviness I couldn't have anticipated. Silas passed away on May 27, 2008, almost 8 months after being diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer that had spread to his spine. Cancer is such a cruel, unjust disease. When it affects children and young adults it is beyond cruel and unjust. Watching Silas as he continued to find hope, humor,… Continue

I am so sorry for your loss. This "monster" (cancer) is so unfair that children get cancer for no reason. My daughter had Stage 3 Neuroblastoma at age 2. With intensive chemo and surgery she pulled through, but due to chemo she will have to have her hearing checked, heart montitored, and abodomen scanned for the rest of her life. Then shortly after her surgery I went thru a divorce. Not only does this event in someone's life cause heartaches, but marriages fall apart also. These chemo treatments can cause other cancers. I hope a cure can be found soon that is not so toxic and poisanous to the body and its organs. It has been my mission in life to fight this since my daughter has been diagnosed. My heart goes out to you and your family. My thoughts are with you. Thank you for fighting this along with me. Take Care.

I am so sorry for your loss and touched by your comments. Brayden turned 6 in March. May 27 is also my daughter's birthday. We will not forget the day for many reasons. I don't think the age of your child ever changes that they are your baby. Cancer is so cruel and I just have a hard time with the fact that these children who have just started to live have to watch as their bodies go through so much and so many time they loss the battle and they know they are. And they try to help us and prepare us. I look at them as heroes. We need to find a way, a cure, better treatments so that they have a fighting chance.
