We lost our 14 year old son, Hank on Dec. 14, 2007 after a 13 month battle w/a rare subtype of ALL, known as hypodiploid. He was a great athlete, a great student and the life of the party. More importantly, he was a great friend, a great brother and a loving son. He fought as hard as anyone can. Following a bmt in March, 2007, he returned to graduate with his 8th grade class in June and returned to play travel baseball by June. He started high school but relapsed over Labor Day. His relapse treatment was complicated by a fungal infection, zygomucosis, which eventually claimed him in December after a valiant 2.5 month fight. The Henry Schueler 41 & 9 Foundation was formed in his memory to fund a scholarship in perpetuity at St. Patrick's High School in Chicago where his football number 41 and baseball number 9 have been retired. It also is focused on funding research into high risk leukemias like hypodiploid and fungal infections of immuno-compromised pediatric cancer patients. Please see for more information.

What I Want

I want Susan to be making dinner and looking out the back windows smiling like she always did when we played. I want to watch Hank go after every ball and pop up as if it was the 7th game of the World Series and his play would be the final out in the Cubs quest for the Championship. I want to watch Hank, and Anna and Joe… Continue

Schueler's New Year's Message

Posted At : January 2, 2009 4:53 PM | Posted By : Matt

I miss the Carepages. Somehow signing into the site and sharing my thoughts kept me close to Henry and our life the last 2 years. Perhaps it was reviewing our previous entries while Hank was sick, so full of concern yet always written with hope and perhaps a confidence that Hank would beat the odds. Maybe it was the countless messages of support from friends and family written during his… Continue
