I am Melissa, mom to 2 year old identical twin boys. One of my little guys Brandon was diagnosed with Stage III Hepatoblastoma at 10 months. After 6 months of rough chemo and many surgeries, Brandon was placed on the National Waiting list for a liver transplant as the tumor was now wrapped around the portal and hepatic arteries in the liver, meaning surgery to remove the tumor was not an option (this told to us during an attempted liver resection - gotta love being pulled into a conference room during surgery!), his only hope was to receive a beautiful new cancer free liver!
He received his gift of life in May '07 after waiting just 35 days at the top of the list! We are so grateful to say that he is a year in remission/post transplant. We have some bumps in the road every now since he is immunosuppresed from the anti-rejection drugs, but life is beautiful! We are currently being followed closely by Oncology for secondary cancers, late effects etc.
Brandon Today! Happy and thriving!
