“bELIeve”

We wanted to start off the blog this week with a note of remembrance. Sadly, one of our heroes and longtime stand hosts, Eli Matthews, lost his life to childhood cancer last week. Eli was 10-years-old. Eli and his family held several lemonade stands throughout his life, and as came to be their slogan, they “bELIeve” in a cure for leukemia. We send our condolences to Eli’s family, and will use his inspiration to continue our mission. For more on Eli, please…

Because of major treatment advances, 80% of these children will survive 5 years or more. This is a huge increase from before the 1970s, when the 5-year survival rate was less than 50%.” – American Cancer…

Alexandra “Alex” Scott Painting nets $16,000 at gala celebration

ALSF hosted our first special event of the year this past weekend, and The Lemon Ball 2011 did not disappoint! As this headline indicates, perhaps the most exciting moment of the evening came during the Live Auction, when the “Alex’s Heart Painting” incited a bidding war.

In years past, a plate of lemon…

Greater awareness needed... among the Aware

Attempting to unite the many childhood Cancer foundations with similar, if not the same goals (some dedicated to specific diseases, others focused on quality of life issues or providing comfort rather than research) is a monumental task, and I so appreciate PAC2 for providing an open forum where information can be shared so that our community can become more aware of itself.

Awareness about childhood Cancer awareness?  Yes.  It's desperately needed.

A New Year, A New Resolution, and Renewed Hope

Along with each New Year comes the opportunity for new beginnings. Many of us make New Year’s resolutions as we enter a new calendar year, citing ways in which we would like to change ourselves and our lives. There are many popular resolutions, among those that rank highest – spending more time with family and friends, getting physically fit, losing weight, fixing finances and getting organized. These people are doing amazing work to raise funds and research cures for childhood cancer. This is my speech, in honor of AJ and all the cancer kids.......and it…
