Our son, Brandon was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on Memorial day of 2004. When the doctor first told us that our son had cancer, we cried like never before...our heart hurt. We went through about every emotion you could think of. We were totally paralyzed with grief and fear thinking our 4 year old son could die. The doctor said it was severe and we needed to get started right away with chemotherapy. After that, it seemed as everything was a blur and happened so fast. When your… Continue

As you all know, September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. All during the month you can donate to St. Jude Hospital, the national hub of pediatric cancer research, by eating at Chili's restaurants. September 27th, all day long, is "Donate All Profits Day", when all Chili's in the country donate 100% of their profits to St. Jude. Mark your calenders and spread the word!

They have been all the rage this year, and as you may have heard, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation now has our version of the famous fashion accessory sweeping the nation – Lemon Bandz. Lemon Bandz are silicone rubber band bracelets that take the shape of a lemon when removed, and are the hottest trend among kids and teens. What better way to support ALSF than by adding Lemon Bandz to the other fun shapes on your wrist.…

I know that this isn't the place to keep a journal of the kids' progress, but after re-reading my last blog, I just can't leave it at that. Just days later another tumor was found, Kendall was admitted to Children's Hospital here in New Orleans, and after surgery to reinstall a port, (after two years without one), he began chemotherapy today. We don't yet know what we're dealing with or what's going to happen next, but as soon as his caringbridge page gets updated, I will post it so anyone who… Continue

I posted this on facebook and sent it to my family and friends (to explain why I am always talking about childhood cancer and why I am always trying to get them involved). While on a personal level we get a lot of love, support and prayers, I need them to understand why it is even more important to fight for our kids.
To my family and friends
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and…

I've recently become aware of two charity-related things that might be of interest to PAC2 members. The first was an Ad Council campaign I've seen on a couple of web sites, called "Don't Almost Give." The ad links to a web page encouraging readers to give to charities of various types; the American Cancer Society is one, but there are no pediatric cancer charities listed. I thought this might be something that some of the pediatric fundraising organizations might be interested in pursuing,… Continue

I just wanted to write a quick note for all of those who generously took the time to read my previous post. Kendall's bone marrow and cerebrospinal fluid are showing 100% donor cells. That means no chemo! It looks like they'll be able to take care of this tumor with local radiation and surgery. However, Kendall's doctors tell us that it is certain that the sleeping beast will awaken, that his relapse is coming soon. His parents are discussing a couple of options with clinical trials, with the… Continue

Can you believe that August is here already? We are nearing the end of summer, and turning our attention to the many things on the check list for back to school. Every year when we do this, we always think about the children who won’t be going back to school, or won’t be healthy enough to enter the classroom this year due to their battle with childhood cancer. We know that lemonade stands will become less frequent as we enter the fall and then winter months, but we also know that there are many… Continue
