This Sunday will mark the 11th year I have been missing my son, Evan (Little Bear). He lost his battle with leukemia in 1998. His sister, Allie, is turning 12 next month. She was his bone marrow donor twice. Once when she was born when we harvested her cord blood, and a second time at only 10 months old. Unfortunately, it was too late for Evan by the time his second BMT was performed. He was only 3 years old and never got to do so many things. I am grateful to be able to watch his sister go to school, take field trips, make friends, go to parties - all the things Evan has missed in this life. The pain is a little more managable these days, but it still hurts every single day. Nothing can be done to bring Evan back, but we can all do something for children that are now or may be suffering in the future. Donate blood, get on the national registry for bone marrow donors, participate in the many fundraisers for the Leukemia Soc. Do something - be proactive in this fight. One day... just maybe one day.
