My name is Natasha and I am a graduate student studying to become a psychologist. I have a very close friend who was diagnosed with cancer in her 20's, a grandmother that passed away from cancer, and another friend who was diagnosed in his early 20's with a brain tumor and ever since I have wanted to do something to help!
SO, for my doctoral dissertation, I am conducting a study designed to explore the potential use of a mindfulness based activity workbook that I have created for children ages 7 to 11 diagnosed with cancer. Mindfulness activities, such as mindful breathing exercises, mindful eating exercises, and feelings activities have been found to be helpful for children in decreasing anxiety and I am researching the usefulness of this workbook in alleviating symptoms experienced by children with cancer. I am specifically looking for one more parent/caregiver who has a child between the ages of 7 to 11 who is currently diagnosed with childhood cancer or who has survived childhood cancer. Participation involves, reading the activity workbook, completing an evaluation questionnaire, and participating in a short interview about your review and experience of reading the workbook (no longer than an hour and a half). The total amount of time for participation will take no more than 2.5 hours. Participation in the study will remain confidential. Names will not be identified in the written report, and although verbatim quotes from interviews might be used in the final written report of my dissertation, names will not be used and any identifying information will be removed or disguised. Participants will receive a $25 Visa gift card at the end of the interview. Additionally, if desired, participants will receive a copy of the finalized workbook.
If you happen to know anyone that might be interested in participating please email me directly!
I really appreciate this website and am so fortunate to have found such an awesome resource for families :) I have found it has been difficult to find helpful resources.
